Bio:
Sofia Grin is a self-taught abstract artist based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her paintings and drawings are developed through intuitions and reveal a raw, spontaneous and minimalist language, defined as a continuous process towards freedom of thought.
Her practice has evolved over the years: in the beginning, the expression of her own emotions through a semi-figurative language was evident. In 2018 she reached her artistic vision in the world of the abstract, influenced by abstract expressionism, minimalism and marginal art, working on her paintings with a single purpose: to transcend her thoughts, emotions and internal criticism.
Artist statement: To create from a genuine space, it is necessary to get rid of reference ideas that limit our perception of the possible. In this sense, creation is a path through contradictory thoughts and feelings that, if you manage to cross, will allow you to find a a new perspective on both the internal and external spaces that surround your life, a certain sense of unity in a fragile world in constant change, and above all, the death of all intense emotions. My creative process is defined by spontaneous reactions that emerge from the world around me, and are consolidated through constant intuitions and practices. Driven by a great need for movement and clarity, art occurs with deep patience. Observation from a place free of judgment is essential in this instance. Far from academic criteria, my work explores everyday spaces, existential absurdity, nonsense, aesthetics, and simplicity as something eccentric in the modern lifestyle.
