“Don’t Say Can’t”
Artist Statement:
My name is Caroline McAleer and I am a visual artist living in Westport, County Mayo in Ireland. In 2002 I graduated with a degree in design communication. I returned to college in 2014 and completed a digital media Masters in NUIG. The Masters covered many disciplines from programming, e-marketing, e-learning to weekends in the Burren school of art and design. This was a highly valuable course as it increased my technical skills and the confidence in my ability to tackle projects of varying demands and expectations. The skills have added value to my professional resources and I have continued exploring creative concepts.
For the past few years I have built up a strong collection of work which I have been selling to shops around the country. Currently I sell prints and cards of my own designs. April and the Bear in Dublin has sold my work, Cait and I in Sligo and a variety of local shops in Mayo sell my work. I have had work included in various group exhibitions and hope to put together work for a solo exhibition.
The work is photographic collage with graphic elements and typography. I am influenced by my surroundings and the repetitive systematics of nature. The work represents this idea of pattern while incorporating aspects of shape, line and type. It is a love of nature combined with a love of colour and graphic design. All photos used are my own and all finished pieces are my own.
